Since being founded in 2018, Light Lens Lab has built a stellar reputation among Leica fans for its M-mount lenses for Leica cameras.

Some LLL lenses are a love letter to rare Leica lenses that very few people get to see, let alone touch or use, painstakingly recreated down to the minute details, including the choice of metal and characterful signature optical quality.

Others are reimagined vintage Leica lenses with reworked optical constructions for improved image quality.

But what all LLL lenses have in common is that they are way more affordable than the real thing, while still giving users the closest possible experience of these desirable Leica M lenses.

Take the Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 ('11873') – a rare double aspherical lens produced in the early 1990s, limited to a sub-2,000 production run. It'd set you back around $25,000 / £20,000 / AU$40,000, yet LLL has recreated the lens to a 98% match, and sells its creation for a fraction of the price, around $1,500 / £1,043 at its online store.

YouTuber Bobby Tonelli describes the original as a 'Holy Grail' of Leica lenses, and compares it with the LLL homage on his YouTube channel – let's just say he's seriously impressed with the affordable LLL alternative.

Recently, Tonelli was able to do something no one else has before: arrange a video interview with the founder of Light Lens Lab, Mr Zhou.

Their 20-minute discussion (linked below) unpacks the story behind Light Lens Lab, digs deeper into some of the high-profile LLL lenses available for purchase, its lens roadmap, and other upcoming projects, including reworking a classic Chinese TLR camera and making its own film. The chat is well worth a watch.

‘We want to reach that level'

The story behind Light Lens Lab is actually rather heart-warming. This is no soulless business, but one born out of fandom. In his own words, Mr Zhou is a huge Leica fan and once owned more than 200 Leica bodies and Leica M-mount lenses. He was a regular member of Leica groups in China, where the idea was born to tear down and recreate Leica lenses.

His first project was another 35mm lens, an 8-element from 1953. He didn't have the design ability to remake the lens, but its patent had fully expired, the patent documents were publicly available, and he was able to follow Leica's prototype to create a complete replica with fine attention to detail.

The more he used Leica lenses, the more he was impressed with the performance and quality of such a small optics, the type he chooses to recreate. Zhou says, "In such a small package, to reach the highest possible quality – Leica did it very well and it's hard to surpass."

"So I've always tried to walk the path Leica walked, and that's why, in terms of workmanship and quality, we've earned broad recognition."

Other projects include a rare $50,000 Elcan lens – again, Leica had published the Elcan optical patent – plus a 1966 Noctilux, which took four years to make. One hurdle was that two of the glass types in the original are long discontinued, but with the help of the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Zhou was able to match the original 70-year-old formula by re-melting/remaking this special glass.

The results? Equally small and light lenses of similar optical quality, if not better, exhibiting what are essentially the same characterful looks, including bokeh.

Certain Leica lenses can be both pricey and hard to find, so it's little wonder that so many Leica fans appreciate the dedication of Light Lens Lab in remaking rare Leica optics. I'm yet to try a LLL lens, but I've read enough online reviews from discerning Leica fans to believe the hype.

And Zhou isn't stopping with vintage Leica lenses. He's remaking modern Leica lenses, again selling his creations for a fraction of the cost, and has earmarked an 'ACDK' series (Angineux, Cooke, Dallmeyer, and Kintoptic) – lens types with a signature look; if you're a cinema lover, you will be familiar with the legendary Cooke look.

Zhou also revealed another long-term project: reworking a traditional Chinese TLR film camera with modern design to achieve better mechanics and optics, as well as manufacturing his own film, much like Leica recently did, and of course, in the footsteps of Fujifilm.

Manufacturing lenses, cameras, and film. "We want to reach that level", says Zhou, and honestly, I'm rooting for him.

If you’re completely out of the loop, Skyscraper Live was broadcast on Saturday following free solo climber and certified daredevil Alex Honnold on his attempt to climb the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan without the use of ropes – in which he triumphantly succeeded.

However, what was a monumental achievement for Honnold turned out to not be the most thrilling viewing experience for those who were initially excited to tune into the Netflix live event. There were many gaffes that viewers picked up on while watching Skyscraper Live showing that, despite its near three-year run, Netflix still has a lot to learn when it comes to live events.

'This is the worst live sports production I’ve ever seen in my life'

Though Netflix has seen success with past live events – mainly its boxing specials such as the recent Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua match – Skyscraper Live wasn’t quite the smash hit Netflix hoped it would be with viewers. It has its production and commentary to blame, which users have described as ‘insufferable’.

The commentary is mainly attributed to the event’s panel of hosts, which included new anchor Elle Duncan, WWE star Seth Rollins, and climber and friend of Honnold Emily Harrington, who couldn’t help themselves but interject with unwanted commentary at times where Honnold was speaking mid-ascend.

Following the event, viewers swarmed Netflix’s Instagram posts as well as rushing to Reddit, where one user even described it as ‘the worst live sports production’ they’d ever seen (see below). But what really got under people’s skin were the filler comments made by Duncan who moderated the panel; ‘Hey Alex, what ya doing?’, one viewer flagged, who was left in complete disbelief.

The underwhelming spectacle of Skyscraper Live shows that there’s a lot of room for growth for Netflix who, if it were to start someone, should start with toning down the over-produced nature of its live events and keep in mind what types of audiences will be tuning in.

As well as the event’s jarring commentary, Netflix fell under criticism for its lack of consideration for climbing enthusiasts who were excited to watch and listen to Honnold’s own commentary as he made his ascent: ‘This was done for the masses, not climbers’, someone commented.

Will Netflix learn from Skyscraper Live? One can hope, but the chances are slim – especially now that the platform is front-loading its dedication to vertical video feeds for its mobile experience which viewers never asked for – just like Duncan’s unlistenable commentary.

DapuStor is a Chinese startup which develops and makes very large - and very fast - enterprise-grade SSDs.

These include the DapuStor J5060 61.44TB and the Roealsen6 R6101 7.68TB. The latest drive from the firm is the Roealsen6 R6101C 7.68TB SDD, which TweakTown reviewed and raved over.

Testing showed the drive delivering record sequential and mixed workload throughput when compression was enabled - and TweakTown wrote, “This is by far the fastest rate we’ve encountered from any single PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD.”

Part of DapuStor’s Roealsen6 series, the new SSD is built around the company’s in house DP800 controller and firmware. It uses a PCIe 5.0 interface and 3D eTLC NAND flash, while supporting the NVMe 2.0 protocol.

Unlike standard SSDs, the R6101C includes an application processor paired with a transparent hardware compression engine.

This allows data to be compressed before being written to flash, reducing the amount of physical storage accessed.

Performance and usable capacity depend, naturally, on how compressible the data is. Users can favor raw speed or effective capacity, although both are tied directly to workload characteristics.

Under ideal conditions, the compression system can reach up to a 4:1 ratio. This allows a 7.68TB drive to present several times its physical capacity to the host.

This echoes long standing practices in tape storage, where LTO media lists native and compressed capacities.

At a 2:1 compression ratio, TweakTown measured up to 14,200MB/s sequential writes and 15,050MB/s sequential reads. Both figures exceeded factory specifications.

Random write testing also set records. Results reached around 1.27 million IOPS in 4K workloads at the same compression level.

The SSD draws roughly 18W under load and uses a U.2 form factor. It’s rated for 1 DWPD and supports common enterprise platforms.

Compression based SSDs aren’t new of course, with products from ScaleFlux already on the market, but the new Roealsen6 adds another option for buyers.

TweakTown rated it 99/100, while noting that real world results will depend on achieving compression levels that won’t apply to all data types.

Senior Hardware Editor Jon Coulter concluded, “DapuStor’s Roealsen6 R6101C 7.68TB has delivered the highest sequential throughput and the highest mixed workload throughput we’ve ever encountered from any flash based SSD.”

In the past, from some of the bigger (and smaller) case makers, we've witnessed the likes of Cougar's FV270 fish tank case, which has an RGB turntable inside. Or to venture into more left-field experimental territory, how about Cooler Master's shark-shaped gaming case? Or indeed some of the truly elaborate case designs seen at past Computex shows.

If anything, this year has shown us some even wilder and more innovative ideas for PC cases, even though 2026 has barely begun, which has prompted me to pick out a few favorites here.

Two are actual PC cases, and one is just a DIY concept that modifies your existing case – but I love it so much that I feel it must be mentioned. And anyone who played coin-op arcade games is likely to appreciate it just as much.

1. NextGear Clear Shift

The NextGear Clear Shift, as highlighted by PC Watch (a Japanese tech site), has a built-in cloaking device, Star Trek-style. Well, sort of. What the Clear Shift actually does is transform the case window panels (front and side) from see-through to opaque at the touch of a button.

One minute, the case is transparent, and you can see the CPU, GPU, and other hardware inside; the next minute, it's opaque, and you can't see the innards at all. When the PC is off, it's opaque by default, in case you were wondering.

Pretty cool? Definitely. Pretty pointless? Well, what's the point of any of these fancy custom cases, except to do something strikingly different that takes us away from the land of plain black mini towers?

Although that said, there could be a practical use for this case after all, given what we've been hearing about RAM being a new target for burglars, smashing and grabbing the stuff out of desktop PCs – at least with the NextGear Clear Shift, they won't be able to see if you've loaded up 128GB of DDR5 inside your machine (not at a glance, anyway).

2. InWin Aeon

Shown off at CES 2026, where it turned some heads to say the least, InWin's Aeon case is described as a "vision beyond convention" and a "mechanized architectural statement". Hyperbole? Well, yes, but in fairness, this is a jaw-dropping case and definitely a statement.

It uses reflective mosaic panels to achieve a really smart, modern appearance, and the chassis shape makes the Aeon seem more like a futuristic artifact from a sci-fi movie than a PC case. On top of that, the chassis has an RFID card reader, and when the provided card is swiped, the case opens to give super-slick access to the components (check it out in the promo video above).

3. Coin-op gaming PC

Remember coin-ops, or coin-operated machines, at old-style arcades? Here we have an external addition to a PC case: a coin mechanism. You need to put a specific coin into your machine to turn it on.

This is the brainchild of Mr Yeester, a hardware engineer with his own YouTube channel, as Tom's Hardware spotted, and you can see the process of making this creation in the video clip above.

The end result is a separate coin acceptor box hooked up to the gaming PC, and while the engineer uses a makeshift enclosure to save time, it could obviously be something a bit fancier. This is a highly novel idea, and there's a security element here too: if you don't have precisely the right coin – the acceptor box checks the metal's size and thickness using phototransistors and infrared LEDs – you can't turn on the computer. The hunt for the next breakout singing star in the United States is underway as American Idol 2026 returns for season 24 – its ninth since moving to ABC in 2018. Superstar judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood are all back on the panel.

Underwood, who replaced longtime judge Katy Perry last year, returns for her second season. Also returning is host Ryan Seacrest, who has been with the series since its inaugural season in 2002.

As for what to expect from season 24, viewers will be greeted with some fresh shake-ups. For the first time ever, Idol is bringing voting to social media beyond its usual text and phone voting. According to showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick, the rationale behind this move is to expand and take the show to a younger audience. Other than that, the show is also moving its annual Hollywood Week from Los Angeles to Nashville.

We’ll also get to see a new Ohana round, which will be filmed at Aulani – a Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii. More than a million '.ai' domains have now been registered as of early January 2026, largely driven by the ChatGPT-induced global AI boom, and it's proving to be quite the money maker for Anguilla, a new report has found.

Research from Sherwood found the small British Overseas Territory has control over the '.ai' domain as its country code, which it has now turned into a major revenue stream worth an estimated $70 million per year, or the equivalent of around 20-22% of the government's total revenue.

Compared with 2023, the number of '.ai' domain registrations has near tripled from 354,000, with revenue more than doubling from an estimated $32 million.

Anguilla is benefitting from the AI boom, but in a different way

At present, around 37% of the Caribbean island’s revenue comes from tourism, marking a considerable reliance on international travel – a factor that was heavily affected by COVID. However, this additional revenue worth around a fifth of the government’s income serves as an important extra to bolster finances.

The average ‘.ai’ domain costs $140 per year, but the most staggering figure is the domain’s 90% renewal rate, indicative of long-term stability for Anguilla on this front.

And it’s not just AI startups that are paying for Anguilla’s domains – Google, x.ai and Perplexity are also cashing in on the brand-boosting trend.

The International Monetary Fund noted that Anguilla isn’t the only Small Island Developing State to have benefitted from its uniquely positioned domain ownership. Tuvalu previously saw a rise in the 1990s for its ‘.tv’ domain.

IMF noted that Anguilla plans to invest its domain-related cash in long-term sustainable projects, such as renewable energy. Key infrastructure like its airport could also benefit from this strike of pure luck.

The XR glasses are now able to do this via a tech Xreal calls Real 3D. It first debuted on the Xreal 1S glasses and has since landed on Xreal’s One and One Pro specs, too, thanks to an update.

Once switched on, the glasses will create depth in previously flat videos and games. Best of all, it works on any app and with any system, as it’s not handled by your phone, laptop, or console – Xreal’s specs handle all the 3D processing for you.

Starting with my phone before I even booted up any apps, I could see Real 3D in effect, as it turned my phone background – a picture I took of my fiancée in Pompeii – had a stereoscopic effect, as did my app icons, which were now floating above the page.

Actually moving into video, I tried both some animated projects – Eyes of Wakanda and Phineas and Ferb – as well as some live-action stuff – Rogue One and a YouTuber streamer’s latest VoD.

2D Animation is where the tech really shines. The better-defined edges of objects seemingly help the software distinguish items from one another better, whereas Rogue One occasionally had distortion around the edges of objects, and some layers blended incorrectly.

Eyes of Wakanda, with its more complex 3D animated style, slanted in between. Mostly great, but sometimes there would be noticeable errors in the glasses’ rendering. Regardless, I generally found Real 3D to be impressive, and I’ll definitely try to use it.

You can tweak the strength of the stereoscopic effect in the glasses’ settings. You can reduce the errors at the cost of 3D effect strength, or make the effect much stronger at the risk of it having a bit more trouble in more complex scenes.

With my video tests done, I switched over to my Asus ROG Xbox Ally X to boot up Sekiro and The Binding of Isaac. Much like with the shows, Isaac’s simpler 2D style was easier to get a great 3D effect from, whereas Sekiro could struggle at times.

Sekiro’s troubles were also impacted by some noticeable performance dips – such as a lower framerate and a subtle lag – that did make executing its more precise gameplay a little more challenging.

Exactly what XR needs

All this is to say that Real 3D is a very impressive tool, if still a work in progress, as my colleague Lance Ulanoff found it to be when trying the Xreal 1S specs. Despite its occasional slip-ups, I still loved using it, and I’m excited to see how Xreal evolves this tech over time.

I remember chatting with its team at an event a couple of years ago, where we bemoaned the lack of accessible 3D content for XR hardware. At the time, outside of Disney Plus on the Apple Vision Pro, you couldn’t simply buy or rent a 3D flick.

As another attendee in our conversation noted, the quiet part is that if you want 3D content for your glasses, you’d need to sail the seven seas.

This is obviously not ideal, especially for a medium like XR, which is well-positioned to leverage stereoscopic content. So I am so excited that Xreal has taken such an initiative with Real 3D and decided to forcibly drag 3D content to its platform while content makers drag their heels.

It’s definitely another arrow in the Xreal glasses’ already full quiver, and over time I'm sure Real 3D will only get better. The ball’s also now in the court of its rivals. Viture has something similar to Real 3D but it requires an on-device app, while many other glasses have no equivalent.

How to experience Real 3D

If you want to try Real 3D for yourself, you’ll need a pair of Xreal One, Xreal One Pro, or Xreal 1S glasses.

They’ll also need to be running the latest firmware. The easiest way to fix this is to head to Xreal’s Update Page on your PC, connect your glasses to your PC using their USB-C cable, and follow the onscreen prompts to install the update.

Once installed, connect your glasses to a compatible device and open up the glasses’ settings menu by double-tapping the red button on your frames. In the display settings, select Real 3D, and have fun with the new tool.

By returning to the settings, you can turn Real 3D off, but you can also turn it off by unplugging your glasses and reconnecting them to your device. Additionally, you can adjust the strength of the 3D effects.

GMKtec has launched the G3 Pro, an entry-level mini PC powered by the Intel Core i3-10110U, a dual-core, four-thread processor from the Comet Lake series.

That CPU is more than six years old, but it still offers basic processing power for light tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback.

The integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics lag behind modern iGPUs in performance but can still handle standard video playback and everyday graphical workloads.

Memory and storage options

Despite its older processor, the G3 Pro supports up to 64GB of DDR4 memory across two SO-DIMM slots.

Storage options are also generous, with two M.2 slots that can each house up to 4TB SSDs, allowing a total capacity of 8TB, and users can also choose preconfigured options with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD or 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, offering flexibility for different usage scenarios.

The G3 Pro includes a decent selection of ports, including four USB 3.2 Type-A ports, two HDMI ports, one 2.5G Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm audio jack, and also supports Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6, allowing reliable wireless connections.

The device measures 114x106x42.5mm, maintaining a compact profile suitable for tight desk spaces or portable setups.

The G3 Pro feels like a device designed for casual computing without demanding high-end hardware, with its design and specifications suiting users who want a compact device with ample memory and storage while keeping costs down.

If you need a mini PC for serious tasks such as video editing, gaming, or professional workstation use, you should avoid this model.

Despite its limitations, the G3 Pro costs around $130 for the barebone configuration in China, with upgrades pushing the price higher, and it feels overpriced compared to competing models that offer better out-of-the-box hardware near $150.

For example, the GMKtec G3 Plus with an Intel N150 CPU, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD sells for about $126 on sale and includes usable memory and storage without requiring additional purchases.

Similarly, the Kamrui GK3 Plus with an Intel N95, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD drops to about $132 with coupons and delivers double the RAM and ample SSD capacity for casual tasks.

This makes the G3 Pro less appealing to hobbyists and casual users who want flexibility from a mini PC.

While the official spinoff of TikTok’s U.S. operations into the TikTok USDS Joint Venture closed last week, things in the first few days under this new ownership have been less than perfect. Mainly, the platform has been disrupted since yesterday, January 25, 2026, resulting in the app not functioning properly for many users.

I’ve experienced the feed displaying older videos, pausing in the middle of content, sound not syncing, and even videos not fully uploading. I’ve heard similar tales from friends who use TikTok – one who saw a video post that wasn’t visible to other users – and Down Detector shows a spike that started early on the morning of January 25, 2026.

It could be that, after the TikTok USDS Joint Venture was formalized, it’s experiencing growing pains as this new entity takes control of the algorithm and moves operations to new data centers. Remember, in the middle of last week, after the deal was announced, new terms and conditions were rolled out to TikTok users in the United States.

The TikTok USDS Joint Venture’s X (formerly Twitter) account posted earlier today, January 26, to address the issues. “Since yesterday, we’ve been working to restore our services following a power outage at a U.S. data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate,” noting that the issues folks have been experiencing were due to a power outage at a data center in the United States. These issues also correlate with a spike in reports for CapCut, the editing app owned by ByteDance – TikTok’s parent company and still a partial owner of the TikTok USDS Joint Venture.

The post ends with, “We’re working with our data center partner to stabilize our service. We’re sorry for this disruption and hope to resolve it soon.” This was posted at 10:21 a.m. ET on January 26, 2026, and as of this publishing, there are still over 1,000 reports of issues with TikTok. That’s more than an average day but less than the nearly 8,000 reported last evening.

Hopefully, TikTok US will be able to share a bit more about what’s going on in the hours or days after this is fully resolved, but it’s been a tough start for the platform so far. The timing of these functional issues also coincides with increased scrutiny of the new terms and conditions – specifically around how the app will collect location data and use user data for AI training – as well as the platform’s updated content moderation policies.

A rugged mobile NAS with an integrated tablet-style interface has finally gone on sale after first being announced a year ago at CES 2025.

At $1,599, the UnifyDrive UP6 isn’t cheap, but it combines portable flash storage, networking, battery backup, and on-device processing in a single unit.

Compact and weighing about 1300g without its protective case, UP6 is primarily aimed at photographers and video creators who need fast local file backup and file management when out and about.

Some features "coming soon"

UP6 includes a built-in 6-inch touchscreen that acts as the main interface for managing files, checking system status, and previewing content without connecting another device.

The UP6 is based on an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor with a 14-core CPU, 7-core integrated GPU, and an 11 TOPS NPU. This allows tasks such as file organization and AI-assisted search to run directly on the device.

UnifyDrive ships the UP6 with 16GB of DDR5 memory installed. The system supports up to 96GB, although you’ll need to buy and install any additional memory yourself, and given the current price of RAM that will add quite a bit more to the price.

Storage is fully flash-based and the chassis supports up to six PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs, allowing a maximum capacity of 48TB depending on drive choice.

The built-in display isn’t limited to system control. It can be used to preview photos and video, monitor backups, and perform basic edits directly on the device.

I’m particularly interested in two future features marked as coming soon. One allows users to display curated photo slideshows on the screen while the system is idle, and the other, supports streaming, previewing, transferring, and backing up media directly on the device.

UP6 includes a built-in UPS that provides up to two hours of runtime. The system can shut down automatically to reduce the risk of data loss during power interruptions.

Connectivity includes dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10GbE Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 2.1, and USB ports. External GPU support is available via Thunderbolt.

The device can also operate in access point (AP) mode, creating a local network for file sharing when no external Wi-Fi is available.

Asus has announced the ExpertBook B3 G2, a configurable Copilot+ PC business laptop that comes in 14-inch and 16-inch versions.

The device starts at 1.41kg for some configurations, with a 180 degree hinge and a chassis that Asus says meets MIL-STD-810H durability tests.

The headline feature is support for AMD’s Ryzen AI processors, with the top configuration using the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, which offers 12 cores, 24 threads, boost clocks up to 5.2GHz, and a 55 TOPS NPU for on-device AI features.

ExpertGuardian security

Asus pairs the processor with AMD Radeon 890M graphics on the HX 470 model, and lower tier Radeon options on other CPUs.

ExpertBook B3 G2 supports up to 96GB of DDR5 memory and up to 3TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage, using M.2 2280/M.2 2230 slots.

Display choices include WUXGA panels and higher resolution 2560 x 1600 options, including an anti-glare 144Hz 2.5K model.

Ports include USB-A, USB-C with DisplayPort 2.1 and Power Delivery, USB4 at 40Gbps, HDMI 2.1, a 3.5mm combo jack, and an RJ45 LAN port. A nano lock is included.

Wireless options include Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7, plus Bluetooth 5.4, depending on the configuration.

On the security side, Asus is pushing its ExpertGuardian stack, including TPM 2.0, dual BIOS ROM, a dedicated security processor, chassis intrusion detection, and cloud recovery.

Asus says its firmware security follows NIST SP 800-193 guidance, although it hasn’t claimed formal certification, and it also promises five years of BIOS and driver updates.

The laptop includes AI noise-canceling for calls, plus Asus MyExpert, which offers document summarization, translation, writing tools, local and cloud search, and meeting transcripts with follow-up lists.

Some of those features are described as optional or region dependent, so you'll want to check what's included before buying.

Battery options are listed at 42Wh, 50Wh, or 70Wh, and the keyboard is rated spill-resistant up to 66cc.

No word on pricing or availability for the ExpertBook B3 G2 at the moment but it should be available to buy very soon.

More than 1.5 million people may have had their sensitive data exfiltrated to Chinese hackers through two malicious extensions found on the VSCode Marketplace.

Security researchers at Koi Security said they discovered two malicious browser extensions in Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code (VSCode) Marketplace, the official Microsoft store for code editor add-ons.

The extensions were advertised as AI-based coding assistants. Indeed, they worked as advertised, providing users with a simple and convenient way to access a Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tool to help with coding. However, the tools were also uploading sensitive data to a third-party server in China without telling the users about it.

According to Koi, these are the add-ons in question, which are both still available for download on the marketplace :

ChatGPT – 中文版 (publisher: WhenSunset, 1.34 million installs)

ChatMoss (CodeMoss) (publisher: zhukunpeng, 150k installs)

Koi says both are part of the ‘MaliciousCorgi’ campaign, and both were sending the stolen data to the same server.

To exfiltrate the data, they used three distinct mechanisms, it was said. The first one is via real-time monitoring of files opened in VS Code client. As soon as the victim opens a file, its contents are encoded in Base64 and relayed to the servers.

"The moment you open any file – not interact with it, just open it – the extension reads its entire contents, encodes it as Base64, and sends it to a webview containing a hidden tracking iframe. Not 20 lines. The entire file," the researchers explained.

The second mechanism is a server-controlled command that stealthily sends up to 50 files from the victim’s workspace, while the third one is a zero-pixel iframe in the extension’s webview where commercial analytics SDKs are loaded. These SDKs track user behavior, build identity profiles, and monitor other activity.

Microsoft told BleepingComputer it was looking into the situation, but the add-ons are still available for download.

Way back in 2023, we reported the launch of an unusual smart TV brand: Telly, which was going to provide 500,000 people in the US with a 55-inch 4K HDR smart TV for free. There was just one catch, and of course it involves advertising.

As the cliché goes, if you're not paying for the product then you are the product. And in the case of Telly, your free TV has a second screen that permanently displays ads, and it collects quite a lot of personal information about your viewing.

That makes it a hard sell, and it turns out that the 500,000 prediction was a bit optimistic – but thousands of people have still signed up for Telly and it's reportedly making more money from ads per user than other smart TV platforms such as Roku.

How many people are watching their Telly today?

According to a leaked investor presentation that's been passed to TV industry expert Lowpass (via FlatpanelsHD), as of November 2025 Telly had 35,000 sets in people's homes – slightly up from the 28,000 in the previous financial quarter, but far short of the half million promised at launch – although the report did say that Telly was ordering another 110,000 TVs from its manufacturing partner, Foxconn.

Telly is apparently bringing in an average of around $50 per user per quarter from ad revenue, which is a huge jump on the $41 per year that Roku apparently brings in.

But it's also suffering from multiple issues. Lowpass reports that 10% of Telly TVs are breaking in transit between the warehouse and the customer, and funding the manufacture of its next tranche of 110,000 TVs is going to be a financial challenge.

There may be a more serious challenge too. Telly uses a feature called Automatic Content Recognition, ACR for short, to work out what you're watching and tailor ads accordingly. It's far from the only firm to use the tech, but there are legal cases against multiple manufacturers – Hisense, LG, Samsung, Sony and TCL – regarding the use of ACR and the data it generates.

That's partly political – Texas's Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is leading the charge, claims that ACR means "surrendering your personal information to Big Tech or foreign adversaries" – but as DJI and TikTok can both attest, politics can have a big effect on tech firms' operations in the US.

With ACR so central to its business model, I'm sure Telly is watching the cases closely – because in the worst case, it might never even get close to the original 500,00-unit goal.

Admittedly, you don't have to watch a single Marvel movie or TV show to enjoy Wonder Man because it's a largely standalone tale. However, there are some story- and character-based connections to other MCU productions, so they're worth watching if you need a reminder of who certain people are and/or want to know what happened in the MCU prior Wonder Man. Which MCU films do I need to stream before Wonder Man?

Ahead of the Marvel Phase 6 show's arrival, there are four movies you'll want to watch.

The first two – 2013's Iron Man 3 and 2021's Shang-Chi – are necessary viewing because of Trevor Slattery. A washed-up actor and former substance abuser played by British icon Ben Kingsley, he's not only a prominent figure in the aforementioned films, but also the co-lead of Wonder Man. So, checking out these movies on Disney+, aka one of the world's best streaming services, is necessary to better understand who Slattery is before Wonder Man is released.

As for the other two films, they're led by Spider-Man and might be deemed vital viewing for anyone who wants more information on the Department of Damage Control (DoDC).

This US-funded government agency keeps tabs on enhanced individuals who it deems a threat to the North American superpower. The DoDC made their MCU debut in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming and later appeared in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Admittedly, the DoDC has a bit-part role to play in those movies, so they're not essential viewing if you don't fancy sitting through nearly five hours' of storytelling. You can probably just watch the required scenes on YouTube, too, if you can't commit to streaming Tom Holland's first and third standalone MCU entries.

Which Marvel TV shows should I stream ahead of Wonder Man's launch?

Two live-action Disney+ series and a short TV movie are worth dabbling in for further context on the DoDC and Slattery.

Where the former are concerned, Ms Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law feature the DoDC. The group appear in all-but-one chapter of Ms Marvel, while they show up in episodes 3, 8, and 9 of She-Hulk's live-action show.

Finally, you'll want to watch the Marvel One-Shot titled All Hail the King. One-Shots are a collection of short TV specials that the comic book giant used to make to spotlight specific MCU individuals. The Slattery-starring All Hail the King takes place between Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi, so it's worth streaming if you've got 14 minutes to spare.

Security researchers have found more malware being developed with the help of Gen AI, as the use of AI tools in cybercrime moves from theory into practice, and that defenders should also start integrating AI into their tech stack.

Security outfit Check Point Research (CPR) has detailed KONNI, a known North Korean state-sponsored threat actor that has been around for more than a decade.

According to CPR, KONNI is known for targeting South Korean politicians, diplomats, academics, and other similar targets. However, after more than a decade of chasing after political and diplomatic targets, KONNI shifted its attention towards software developers - specifically, blockchain and crypto developers.

AI-generated PowerShell backdoor

CPR says that in the latest campaign, KONNI was mailing IT technicians with highly convincing phishing lures, attempting to access cloud infrastructure, source code repositories, APIs, and blockchain-related credentials.

Those that took the bait deployed an AI-generated PowerShell backdoor that granted the attackers access to their computers, and through it, to all of the secrets stored there.

“A defining aspect of this campaign is the deployment of an AI-generated PowerShell backdoor, demonstrating how artificial intelligence is accelerating malware development and deployment,” CPR said in its report.

“Rather than introducing entirely new attack techniques, AI enables faster iteration, easier customization, and greater flexibility.”

The report also stresses that this means cybersecurity professionals will have to change, or evolve, their approach, as well. AI-generated malware can change faster and to a greater extent, evading traditional, signature-based detection with ease.

“Organizations should treat development environments as high-value targets,” CPR concludes. To defend, they should first strengthen phishing prevention across collaboration and developer workflows. After that, they should protect development and cloud environments with strong access controls and finally, use AI-driven threat prevention to block unseen malware early in the attack chain.

Volvo’s parent company Geely Auto, which also owns Zeekr, Lotus and Lynk & Co, has announced that it is moving its solid-state battery technology from the lab to the road as it begins production and testing.

Announcing the news during the Geely Holding Group's five-year strategy communication event, the company said it will complete production of its debut, in-house developed all-solid-state battery (SSB) pack this year and move it out of the lab and into prototype vehicles for testing.

There is no word on which brand will be the first to receive the technology, but Geely’s solid-state battery is claimed to offer an energy density of 400 Wh/kg. This is significantly more than the 200-300 Wh/kg that today’s lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes offer.

As a result, the automaker can potentially fit electric vehicles with lighter and smaller battery packs, which would greatly improve the ride and handling. Alternatively, larger solid-state batteries could be employed to offer a monster range well in excess of 650 miles between charge stops.

Safer and more convenient

Volvo recently took the wraps off its latest EX60 model that the company hopes will establish the marque as a true EV leader. The vehicle already delivers a range of around 500 miles, but with SSB technology, this could easily tickle the 650-700 mile mark.

What’s more, Volvo is a brand that’s synonymous with safety and Geely Auto’s SSB battery packs promise faster charging without compromising safety thanks to a lower thermal runaway risk, as well as improved performance in the event of an accident.

That said, Geely isn’t the only automaker that’s chasing the technology, with myriad Chinese rivals on the cusp of unleashing production vehicles onto the market, as well as BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and the Stellantis Group pushing the technology forward among the legacy automakers.

The next two years are going to be huge for electric vehicles, with max range and charging speeds set to make a quantum leap over the coming 24 months.

Microsoft has revealed Maia 200, its "next major milestone" in supporting the next generation of AI and inference technology.

The company's new hardware, the successor to the Maia 100, will "dramatically shift the economics of largescale AI," offering a significant upgrade in terms of performance and efficiency as it to stake a claim in the market.

The launch will also look to push Microsoft Azure as a great place to run AI models faster and more efficiently, as it looks to take on its great rivals Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Microsoft Maia 200

Microsoft says Maia 200 contains over 100 billion transistors built on TSMC 3nm process with native FP8/FP4 tensor cores, a redesigned memory system with 216GB HBM3e at 7TB/s, and 272MB of on chip SRAM.

This all contributes to the ability to deliver over 10 PFLOPS in 4-bit precision (FP4) and around 5 PFLOPS of 8-bit (FP8) performance - easily enough to run even the largest AI models around today, and with space to grow as the technology evolves.

Microsoft says Maia 200 delivers 3x the FP4 performance of the third generation Amazon Trainium hardware, and FP8 performance above Google’s seventh generation TPU, making it the company's most efficient inference system yet.

And thanks to its optimized design, which sees the memory subsystem centered on narrow-precision datatypes, a specialized DMA engine, on-die SRAM, and a specialized NoC fabric for high‑bandwidth data movement, Maia 200 is able to keep more of a model’s weights and data local, meaning fewer devices are required to run a model.

Microsoft is already using the new hardware to power its AI workloads in Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft 365 Copilot, with wider customer availability coming soon.

It is also rolling out Maia 200 to its US Central datacenter region now, with further deployments coming to its US West 3 datacenter region near Phoenix, Arizona soon, and additional regions set to follow.

When Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) first emerged, early opinion makers were discussing dynamic websites - sites that are not designed upfront and unveiled, but were rather generated on the spot, for the visitor, depending on their location, keywords used, browsing habits, device used, intent, and so on.

The age of static websites was apparently almost over, and that in no-time, the content we’ll see on the internet will be unique and tailored solely for us.

While that dream still hasn’t materialized, the pioneers of this approach will most likely be - cybercriminals.

Not exactly theoretical

Security researchers from Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 arm have found the technique can be easily used in phishing.

In short, here is how it would work:

A victim would be phished to visit a seemingly benign webpage. It contains no visible malicious code, but once loaded, it sends carefully crafted prompts to a legitimate LLM API. The LLM returns JavaScript code (which is unique and different for every user), which is then assembled and executed directly in the browser.

As a result, the victims are presented with a fully functional, personalized phishing page, generated with no static payload delivered over the network which the researchers could intercept and analyze.

While the method is mostly a proof-of-concept today, it’s not purely hypothetical, either. Unit 42 did not say it observed such an attack in the wild, but hinted that the building blocks are being used.

LLMs are already generating obfuscated JavaScript, albeit offline; runtime use on compromised machines is everywhere; LLM-assisted malware, ransomware, and cyber-espionage campaigns are increasing in numbers every day.

Dynamically generated phishing pages are the future of scams, Unit 42 stressed, but added that detection is still possible through enhanced browser-based crawlers.

“Defenders should also restrict the use of unsanctioned LLM services at workplaces. While this is not a complete solution, it can serve as an important preventative measure,” they added.

“Finally, our work highlights the need for more robust safety guardrails in LLM platforms, as we demonstrated how careful prompt engineering can circumvent existing protections and enable malicious use.”

AirTag, one of the most popular tracking tags, is getting a major update that somehow manages to not change the size, shape, or even price. The next-generation AirTags have better finding range, louder speakers, and even a more recognizable chime, all of which could make their ability to help you track and find lost and misplaced items (or people) better than ever.

The new AirTags (oddly not called "AirTags 2"), which look exactly like the old tags and work with all existing accessories, arrived today on Apple's online store and will arrive at retail stores later this week. Inside is the same second-generation Ultrawideband chip Apple introduced with the iPhone 15 and Apple Series 9.

The chip significantly enhances precision-finding capabilities, making it easier to detect the new AirTag at distances 1.5x further away than the previous AirTag. This means that when you're using your iPhone to find, say, where in or around your house you left your wallet, the AirTag-toting device will appear on your phone, guiding you to the AirTag that much sooner.

Now, though, you can also use your Apple Watch – Series 9 or higher, or Ultra 2 – to find the updated AirTag using visuals and haptic feedback that should be recognizable to anyone who has used their phone to find a lost AirTag.

In addition to a better range, the new AirTag is louder with reengineered speakers that Apple claims are 50% louder. A new Bluetooth chip also means that the AirTag can be activated to make a noise from a greater distance. Plus, the chime they make has been updated and is now more recognizable.

AirTags can help you find items that are far away from you by connecting to the wider Apple user network (without delivering any personalized information to you). And they can work with 36 different airlines, which will help you find your lost AirTagged luggage (you share a link with them). Apple plans to add another 15 airline partners soon, bringing the total to 50.

Not everything is different

For all these changes, there's a lot about the new AirTags that remains the same. As noted, the $29 / £29 / AU$49 per AirTag price ($99 / £99 / AU$165 for a pack of four) is the same. Nothing about the battery or how you replace it has changed. It's still powered by a standard CR2032 battery, and Apple is claiming over a year of battery life.

In addition, all privacy settings and controls remain unchanged. iOS and Android devices will still alert you to an unknown AirTag tracking with you. AirTags separated from their owners for an extended period will also emit a noise. Plus, found unknown AirTags can be disabled: you tap the AirTag with your phone, and it guides you through the steps.

This is the first major update for AirTags in years, and since they launched in 2021, they've seen increasing competition from Tile, Samsung, Moto, and others. Apple doesn't release how many AirTags are out there, and we wonder how often people remember to change the batteries (even if it is only once a year) and how many are just inert discs sitting at the bottom of a backpack. Yes, this is a gentle reminder to check the charge on your tags.

Even so, the peace of mind that comes with tracking wallets, backpacks, and especially luggage is hard to beat. When an airline loses your bags, an AirTag or a tag like it may be the only surefire way to find them, and now, with better range and louder tones, the chances of retrieval are even better.

If you've been playing Connections for a while I'm sure you – like me – had a strong sense of deja-vu today, with several previously played categories reappearing and the Caped Crusader making another stealthy appearance.

Even though every sense was telling me it was a trap. I couldn't resist linking ROBIN, BATMOBILE, PENGUIN, and JOKER. After that I made another mistake but got closer, with QUITE THE LAUGH connecting CARD, CHARACTER and JOKER but trying DEVIL instead of CUTUP.

With one group down, I saw the NHL TEAM MEMBER names and was on my way to the finish line after spotting ball, cap, bat and base at the start of BALLROOM, CAPSTONE, BATMOBILE, and BASEMENT.

I wonder whether this puzzle would have been easier for players who own a dog? Being around other dog owners would give you a wider appreciation of other dog names, perhaps?

I'm not, and I found this one quite difficult. I drew a blank after getting SPOT – I initially thought we were searching for famous dogs – and opted for a hint, then realized I would just have to scan the board for doggy names.

My slow progress was such that it wasn’t until I got the spangram that I realised these were all male dog names.

If you’re anything like me then you’re probably familiar with lying awake in bed, mind buzzing, and thoughts coming to you when you’d rather be sleeping. That’s annoying enough in itself, but it’s even worse when you feel compelled to use your phone to record those thoughts – further staving off sleep by looking at its lit up screen. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

As spotted by XDA Developers, Ansh Trivedi has used a Raspberry Pi to create what they call a ‘Thought Catcher’, also known as the TC-01. It’s a device that you place by your bed, and if a thought comes to you, then you can press a button on it and speak to record the thought.

Press the button again when you’re done speaking, and whatever you said will be transcribed by the AI-powered Whisper.cpp service, and sent to Notion, with a beep letting you know that’s been achieved.

Get some screen-free sleep

So there’s no need to reach for your phone, and therefore one less reason to even keep your phone by your bed, which is ideal if you tend to reach for it at night – be that to record a thought or browse social media – when you’d rather not.

When you wake up in the morning, you’ll then find those thoughts in a Notion database, categorized as an ‘idea’, ‘task’, or ‘note’, complete with a summary-style title, relevant keywords, a timestamp for when the note was captured, and – if it’s a task – an urgency level assigned to it, as you can see in the image below.

Of course, this being Raspberry Pi-based, you’d have to make it yourself, much like Trivedi has done. And as well as the Raspberry Pi itself, it also requires a physical button, a microphone, and a buzzer – plus Python code to configure it.

It’s also something that Trivedi is still working on, so future versions may be improved. The full details of how to make this haven’t been released either, but Trivedi says they’ll share that if there’s interest.

It certainly sounds like an appealing device though – especially if a smaller version of it can be produced. Then after that I’ll just need a waterproof one I can use in the shower, as that’s the other time when thoughts tend to come to me.

It was a keynote address at an Innocence Project conference that coaxed her back to Italy in 2022, and she took the opportunity to confront Giuliano Mignini, the lead prosecutor who'd sent her to prison.

If you wanted an at-a-glance look at just how bad the RAM pricing crisis has got, a new offer at a major retailer underlines this rather effectively.

Over at Amazon in the US, you can see there's a flash deal (a price cut for a limited time) on a Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM kit which comprises of two 16GB memory modules (running at 6000MHz).

That 32GB dollop of memory – which will see you good to go for any everyday or gaming PC, it should be noted – now costs $345 in said deal, which is a substantial $55 discount (14% off) on the quoted list price of $400.

While that may sound like a half-decent deal on the face of it, the truth behind that asking price is that back in September 2025, this RAM was less than half the cost it is today – when it's reduced. In fact, this current deal on a solid DDR5 RAM kit is 2.5x the price it was only four months ago.

How's that for a bargain? Well, obviously through that lens, it isn't a bargain, but compared to the rest of the RAM landscape, it's about as good as it gets, sadly.

Even a DDR4 (last-gen) 32GB RAM kit will set you back $240 (at least) on Amazon currently (sticking to known brands, as I'd advise you should, rather than shaky sounding memory products). As we've seen recently, that older memory standard also getting much pricier is a more recent unfortunate trend.

Analysis: a note of caution for potential buyers

How did we get here? The price of system memory has shot up thanks mainly to a combination of two factors. Firstly, the exploding popularity of AI in all its various forms has led to a huge demand for RAM to fuel this (in data centers where AI workloads are handled). That's not just system RAM, but also video RAM (graphics cards are heavily involved in that processing, too).

What's made this worse is that memory manufacturers cut back on chip production in the past, as there was a glut of supply – meaning this spike in demand has been a lot harder to handle. RAM, and also storage, particularly with higher-end SSDs (these drives all use memory chips, too), have therefore seen huge price rises, as an unprecedented level of demand has been met with lean supply levels.

The other problem here is that correcting those chip stock levels is not an easy process, as memory makers can't magic extra production (huge factories, or fabs as they're known) into existence overnight. Bringing extra manufacturing capacity online is a long-term task, and the thinking is that while there are new fabs being made, they won't be in action and making a meaningful impact on the supply situation until 2028.

What this unfortunately means is that this year, and likely 2027 too, are going to be very difficult times for RAM supply, and consumers will certainly be getting the shortest end of the memory stick (PC makers and other bulk buyers, obviously including those data centers, are the priority). There are a lot of predictions that RAM price hikes are going to get worse before they get better or stabilize.

So, am I suggesting you buy this Amazon deal, then? I can't make that call for you, and in all honesty, it still feels bad to be forced to drop that much money on 32GB of RAM for your PC. On the other hand, as noted, this offer is as good as it gets (from what I can see at the time of writing for a decent DDR5 kit), and in a year's time, $345 might look like a bargain in the US (and the same might be true of the equivalent deals in your region right now).

However, that said, if you don't have a desperate need for RAM in the near future, and aren't planning a PC build for some time, I'd be tempted to hold out until prices start to normalize – which could happen sooner than the experts think, perhaps. As long as your computer will do for some time, being patient is likely still the best approach, and I won't be rushing to buy memory myself.

Storage, on the other hand, is likely to be a different matter. You can still get relatively palatable prices on lower-end SSDs, and if you think you might need one of those in the near future, I really would think seriously about buying now.

Surfshark, one of the market's best VPN providers, has issued a warning to users holding onto older smartphones: it is time to update your device.

In a blog post published last week, the provider confirmed that it has ceased support for the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) operating system (OS). While the move has technically "been in place for a while," Surfshark has now formally detailed the cut-off to clarify why older phones "won't receive the latest updates."

Going forward, the official Surfshark app requires Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or newer. Devices stuck on Android 5.0 are now classified as legacy hardware that will miss out on critical patches, new features, and the stability improvements rolled out to modern systems.

The decision allows the company to focus its resources on forward-looking technology. Surfshark explained the shift helps "ensure the safety of our apps and align them with the latest technology."

By shedding the technical debt associated with maintaining code for a 12-year-old operating system, the provider says it can "accelerate the development and testing of new features and strengthen overall application security."

Ready for 'Baklava' and beyond

While dropping support for Android 5.0 might inconvenience a small number of users, Surfshark’s announcement highlights an impressive commitment to future-proofing. The provider’s support list already includes Android 16 (Baklava), which is listed as "fully supported with the newest app."

This aligns with the provider's ambitious 2026 roadmap, where infrastructure depth and adaptability are key pillars. Ensuring the app is ready for upcoming Android iterations while retiring the obsolete Lollipop OS is a clear signal that Surfshark is prioritizing modern security standards over legacy compatibility.

What to do if you are stuck on Android 5.0

If you are using a device running Android 5.0, your Surfshark app will not immediately stop working. However, using an outdated security tool is risky. Without updates, the app may eventually become incompatible with server-side changes or fail to protect against newer vulnerabilities.

Surfshark’s advice is straightforward: "The safest choice would be updating your software to the latest available version that has all the needed security updates."

For those who cannot afford a new phone or upgrade their OS, Surfshark has outlined three manual workarounds that bypass the need for the official app entirely:

• Manual WireGuard connection: Users can generate configuration files from their account dashboard and use the generic WireGuard app.

For the vast majority of subscribers, no action is needed.

The PC hardware market is arguably in its worst state in years due to the ongoing memory crisis, leading to price increases nearly across the board – and with a troubling case from a popular manufacturer, consumers may fear the worst.

That popular manufacturer is Samsung, and prices for its DRAM and SSDs have doubled or 'sometimes even tripled' in the last two months in South Korea, according to TheElec.

This is reportedly due to Samsung's focus on producing memory for AI enterprises, ultimately leading to a supply shortage for consumers, which sounds similar to Micron's approach in its push towards AI.

For example, a DDR5 RAM module was sold at 100,000 won in November, which is around $69. However, recently, the same Samsung RAM stick was sold for 400,000 won, placing it at around $278. That's a 300% price increase for only 16GB of memory.

Distributors are also buying both RAM and SSDs from Samsung at higher prices, which directly impacts consumer prices – and while this report focuses on the crisis in South Korea (where Samsung is based), it's not unreasonable to believe this will extend to other regions.

A Counterpoint Research analyst, MS Hwang, predicts that 30% of the total manufacturing cost for products will be on memory alone, as reported by TweakTown.

If this estimate is correct, we could essentially see all hardware that uses memory skyrocket in price, and with the current state of affairs, where most manufacturers are pushing for a greater focus on AI, it's not looking very positive for consumers in 2026 and beyond.

Analysis: I hope the AI push fails, and I'm not afraid to say it

There's no denying that AI has been beneficial for PC hardware, specifically for gamers, with Nvidia improving its DLSS upscaling models for better performance and image quality. However, I think AI is currently doing more damage than good for consumers, and I'm hoping the bubble bursts.

Prices are increasing at unprecedented rates for RAM and now, SSDs, with Best Buy's 2TB options far above normal pricing. A prime example is the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD available for $399.99, which is the price you would normally find for a 4TB option.

AI is taking the reins of the PC hardware market and its trajectory, and I fear that the longer this continues, the more normalized it could become, until high prices for such hardware become irreversible.

There’s been renewed talk about Apple’s M6 MacBook Pro and its OLED display, which could launch as soon as late 2026, according to a new report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. But before that, a MacBook Pro equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are also expected to make an appearance within a matter of weeks. All of which raises an important question – are you better off getting the M5 model or waiting for the rumored M6 upgrade?

Well, there are three main points to consider here: the potential price of that OLED panel, the impact of the ongoing memory crisis, and issues that can arise from first-generation products. When you put all those factors together, it could make more sense to pull the trigger on the imminent M5-generation MacBook Pro, if you’re in the market for one of Apple’s laptops.

Let’s start with that OLED panel. Apple’s MacBook Pro has used mini-LED tech for a few years now. Yet while it results in a phenomenal viewing experience, the switch to OLED panels could take the improvements even further. What’s more, Apple is widely expected to build touchscreen functionality into these displays – when you combine that with the OLED improvement, we could see a significant price increase when the M6-generation of MacBook Pro rolls around, assuming all versions get that new display.

The concern among Apple fans is palpable. As user asp821 said on Reddit, “I can’t imagine the premium price of an OLED and touchscreen [MacBook Pro].” If your budget is limited – or you just don’t feel you need something like an OLED touchscreen display – opting for the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips might be the more sensible option.

Calculating the risks

Secondly, even if Apple manages to keep the price of the OLED touchscreen panel reasonable, it also has to contend with the ongoing RAM crisis.

Prices of memory modules have been surging all over the world, leading many people to question whether Apple will be able to absorb the price increases for much longer. While the company likely has agreements in place for the supply and cost of its components, we can’t rule out price adjustments in the face of such an unusual situation. The company has tweaked prices before – will it do so again now that RAM modules are in such short supply?

Finally, there’s the risk of upgrading to first-generation editions of new designs. Apple is generally pretty careful with any new features and functions it introduces, but it’s not immune to mistakes and bad experiences.

Everything from Apple Maps to the Vision Pro headset stumbled when their first editions were released, and it took time before Apple could iron out some of the kinks. And on the MacBook Pro, its 2016 models saw issues with its second-gen butterfly keyboard and a reported flexgate issue that was later addressed.

With the M6 MacBook Pro expected to be the company’s first stab at both an OLED laptop display and one outfitted with touchscreen capabilities, there’s an argument for waiting on the sidelines and holding off until a follow-up device makes an appearance further down the road.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that any of these concerns will be borne out in reality, and the M6 MacBook Pro could be a smash hit of epic proportions. If you have the cash and don’t mind shelling out extra to get the new features, the M6 MacBook Pro might still be a worthy option. But considering all the uncertainties surrounding it, you’d be forgiven for deciding that it’s one device that’s best to avoid – and that the M5 models are the less exciting, but more sensible, choice.

Microsoft has confirmed (via Forbes) it will hand over user BitLocker encryption keys to the FBI if the agency requests them via a valid legal order.

When a person installs Windows 11, they are asked to create a Microsoft account. That account can either be tied to the person’s cloud account, or can be stored locally. In both cases, the account holds all of the user’s data, and is protected by a BitLocker encryption key, a cryptographic key Windows uses to lock and unlock data on a drive protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption.

The cloud account is the default setting. While users can opt for a local one, Microsoft put in extra effort to hide that fact, essentially prodding users towards the cloud-based one.

Convenience and risk

For users with cloud accounts, Microsoft also retains the encryption keys in an unencrypted form, which means the company can technically access user data or provide it to law enforcement when legally required. Obviously, Microsoft frames it as “key recovery”, instead of “backdoor access to people’s data”:

"While key recovery offers convenience, it also carries a risk of unwanted access, so Microsoft believes customers are in the best position to decide... how to manage their keys,” Microsoft spokesperson Charles Chamberlayne told Forbes.

Obviously, the confirmation raised quite a few eyebrows. US Senator Ron Wyden, for example, told Forbes Microsoft's the behavior was “simply irresponsible”:

“Allowing ICE or other Trump goons to secretly obtain a user’s encryption keys is giving them access to the entirety of that person’s digital life, and risks the personal safety and security of users and their families,” he said.

Microsoft says that the FBI makes roughly 20 such requests every year. Most of them can’t be met because people create on-device accounts, instead of cloud ones.

Proton VPN has announced a significant push to modernize its Linux offerings.

The Swiss-based company has confirmed that a complete interface overhaul is in the works, while simultaneously dropping a massive feature update for command-line users.

For those relying on the best VPN for privacy, this is a welcome signal that the Linux ecosystem remains a top priority. While the provider has spent the last year bringing its Windows and Mac apps to new heights, the Linux VPN client is now getting the "speedrun" treatment to close the gap.

A fresh face for Linux GUI

David Peterson, General Manager at Proton VPN, took to social media to confirm that the company has heard the community's feedback loud and clear.

"With the speedrun of additional features added to the ProtonVPN Linux (GUI) client in recent roadmap cycles, most requests are now for a (overdue) GUI refresh," Peterson stated. "Work has been progressing on this behind the scenes, with the first milestone hit last week."

That "first milestone" has been identified in the official release notes as a major under-the-hood update for the Linux GUI beta (version 4.14.0).

The app has officially been updated to GTK4, a modern toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. While the release notes clarify that "the visual appearance remains unchanged" for now, this architectural shift is critical.

It "refreshes the underlying framework and paves the way for future UI enhancements," effectively building the foundation upon which the new, modern look will sit.

Power to the terminal

While the graphical update is setting the stage for the future, the immediate value for power users lies in the Command Line Interface (CLI).

"For non-GUI-enjoyers, we are also rapidly fleshing out the features for the Proton VPN Linux CLI that we relaunched last year," Peterson added.

According to the latest release notes, these updates are split between the stable and beta channels, addressing some of the biggest pain points for terminal users:

• Stable Release (v0.1.4): Users can now "browse available countries and cities to find your preferred location," rather than just selecting countries. This update also adds "improved server selection," allowing direct connections to specialized P2P, Secure Core, and Tor servers.
• Beta Release (v0.1.5): For those on the bleeding edge, the CLI beta channel has added support for a comprehensive list of configuration settings. These include "anonymous crash reports, custom DNS, IPv6, kill switch, NAT type, NetShield Ad-blocker, port-forwarding, and VPN accelerator."

Why this matters

This dual-pronged approach, modernizing the GUI framework for general users while supercharging the CLI for sysadmins, reinforces Proton’s standing in the open-source community.

Unlike competitors that often treat Linux as an afterthought, Proton has consistently pushed for better security by killing off legacy configurations and ensuring its Linux apps are officially supported on more distros.

For current users, the instruction is simple: if you are a CLI user, update your package via your terminal to pull the latest feature set. If you prefer the graphical app, you can test the new GTK4 framework via the beta repos, though the visual facelift is still to come.

The newly unveiled IKEA donut lamp, part of the Varmblixt series, has been turning heads in recent weeks – but Philips Hue looks set to counter with a new product of its own, based on the existing Hue Flourish table lamp.

Based on a listing seen on Amazon Germany (via Hueblog), the lamp is going to get an upgrade from 806 lumens to 1,100 lumens. That should mean a higher maximum brightness for the Flourish lamp when it's sitting in your home.

If you're new to the product, the lamp doesn't actually have a light fixed inside it, like the Flourish pendant light or the Flourish ceiling light. Instead, it comes with a Philips Hue E27 bulb for full color illumination, which can be replaced as and when needed.

It's that bulb that is driving the upgraded lumens in the new version, and the rest of the lamp looks to be the same: it still measures 26.1 centimeters wide and 17.5 centimeters high, so make sure you've got enough room for it before buying.

The price is right?

Based on the Amazon Germany listing, the upgraded Flourish table lamp is going to be available for roughly the same price as the previous version launched at – though the older model no longer available to buy direct from Philips Hue.

The previous version would have cost you $153.99 / £129.99 (roughly AU$225, though it's not clear what the original price in Australia was). Remember that includes both the E27 bulb and the surrounding lamp, made from glass.

The IKEA Varmblixt donut will set you back $99.99 when it goes on sale in April – that's about £75 / AU$145, though international pricing is to be confirmed – so if you're going for the cheaper option it seems as though IKEA is still the way to go.

Of course, a lot depends on what else you've already got set up in your smart home: if you've already heavily invested in Philips Hue lights and perhaps a Hue Bridge to connect them all together, then the Flourish table lamp makes more sense. Well, either that, or buying a different IKEA light and using a Philips Hue bulb inside it.

Google is finally fixing an annoying YouTube Music issue that users have been begging for, and now the music streaming platform syncs your playback queue across other Android and iOS devices – a tool that Apple Music has yet to roll out.

What does this mean for YouTube Music subscribers? Well, similar to tools such as Spotify Connect, your YouTube Music playback queue will now be synced with other devices that you’re signed into, so that you can pick up where you left off hassle-free and continue enjoying your favorite tunes. It’s a godsend if you switch between devices for music streaming.

Previously, the Now Playing queue on Android and iOS was independent, meaning that if you wanted to continue your listening session from a new device, then you’d have to manually build your queue again from scratch – a huge inconvenience if you ask me. With that said, YouTube Music started improving its queue syncing features back in 2024, allowing the web version to load your playback queue from your mobile.

When you switch devices to resume playback, you’ll find the last song you streamed in the miniplayer – so if you were listening to YouTube Music on a Google Pixel Phone and you swap over to an iPad for example, it will resume your queue there. Once you make the switch, you’ll find temporary “From your iPhone” and “From your browser” placeholders for artist names which will disappear when you press play.

It marks a huge quality of life upgrade for YouTube Music users, and it’s about time too, as its music streaming competitors have already jumped on similar bandwagons – with the exception of Apple Music that is.

‘I'm thinking of seriously switching back to Spotify’

Apple Music has many benefits over the likes of Spotify and YouTube Music. It’s one of the best music streaming services for audio quality, supporting Dolby Atmos on a range of albums, and its collection of radio stations and editorial playlists are built with music fans in mind.

It wins in so many areas, however it still hasn’t quite hit the nail on the head when it comes to queue syncing across devices, and since YouTube Music’s latest upgrade it’s ruffled a few feathers with Apple Music subscribers.

As it stands, there’s no means of syncing your playback queue or song progress across devices where you’re logged into Apple Music, requiring you to search for the song you streamed last and rebuild the queue entirely.

While there are many reasons music fans are sticking with Apple Music, recent comments reveal that if there’s one setback that’s enough to tempt users to switch back to Spotify, it’s this one, especially now that there are so many ways to stream music.

Windows 11 has another serious bug hidden in the January update, and this is a showstopper that means affected PCs fail to boot up.

Neowin reports that Microsoft has acknowledged the bug with a message as flagged up via the Ask Woody forums: "Microsoft has received a limited number of reports of an issue in which devices are failing to boot with stop code 'UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME', after installing the January 2026 Windows security update, released January 13, 2026, and later updates.

"Affected devices show a black screen with the message 'Your device ran into a problem and needs a restart. You can restart.' At this stage, the device cannot complete startup and requires manual recovery steps."

So, the good news is that we're told there's a limited impact here, so not many PCs are hit by the bug according to Microsoft. The company said that the issues pertain to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2.

The not-so-great news is that it's a nasty bug, and as Microsoft notes, you'll need to go through a manual recovery, meaning using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). That can be used to try and repair the system, returning it to a functional state.

Analysis: more bug misery – and an obvious question

The question in this case is: how 'limited' is limited? This would suggest a small scattering of people on Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 are hit, though Microsoft doesn't elaborate on what flavors of the OS might be in danger here (in terms of Windows 11 Home or Pro, or enterprise editions).

Looking on Reddit, which is the most likely place to find (relatively reliable) reports of problems with Windows updates, I came across this thread with seven separate complaints about boot failures caused by this latest Windows update.

One Redditor notes: "Can confirm. My PC did in fact not boot. Recovery fully corrupted the boot drive and needed a full reformat and reinstall." Another said they were getting a "disk read error" and that a repair operation (via the recovery environment) didn't work to resolve this. A further report says that a system restore did fix their PC failing to boot, thankfully, so not everyone here is running into a brick wall trying to recover their machine. (Note that these all appear to be consumer PCs in the main – as opposed to work computers).

Now, I can't see any other reports of this, but this update has certainly ended badly for some folks, based on the (anecdotal) complaints that are floating around. Some also claim that the new emergency patch issued by Microsoft – KB5078127 – cures this boot failure issue, but that isn't part of the claimed resolutions here going by what Windows Latest has heard from Microsoft. That emergency patch does fix various gremlins causing apps to crash in Windows 11, including Outlook, though – and it's obviously worth applying anyway. Although if you've already installed the January update, and haven't hit boot failures, then you're in the clear anyway.

Those people who've held off the January update due to the various reported bugs, however, may want to stay away for a while longer until Microsoft further investigates this fresh problem (a process that's underway according to Neowin).

I wouldn't normally recommend not installing a Windows 11 update – due to being without the security fixes applied therein – but in this case, as one Redditor put it, the damage done to their PC by the update was worse than any virus. (Not likely, in fact – but you get the gist). Obviously, it's your decision to make, and it does seem like the bug is rare – but that doesn't mean it's impossible that it'll strike if you install the January update.

There's still no news on the January update glitch that's reportedly torpedoing sleep mode on some (older) PCs.

As Techradar's Senior Fitness & Wearables Editor, I test smartwatches of all kinds. However, in my day-to-day, I'm generally a Garmin-wearer. There's a couple of reasons for this, but a big one is that I'm a regular runner, and Garmin has one of the most comprehensive suites of running features out of all the different wearables categories. Notably, many of the best Garmin watches allow you to generate routes in the Garmin Connect app, sync them to your watch and follow a full-color map on your wrist.

Users of even the best Apple Watches can't do this, at least not natively within Apple's own Workout app. You need to switch apps from Workout to Maps, running Workout in the background, and have a destination or route pre-loaded in the Maps app. It's frustrating and annoying.

Alternatively, the easier option is to download a third-party app, such as WorkOutdoors, Footpath or AllTrails (if you're hiking), all of which allow you to follow maps of a pre-planned route while recording a workout.

Strava has just released its own version of this feature. Spotted via Gadgets & Wearables, users can now pick from their saved Strava routes when recording a workout such as a Walk, Run or Ride in Strava's Apple Watch app, and it'll show a route overlay onto a Dark Mode map.

Unfortunately, there's reportedly no Garmin-style breadcrumb trail or rerouting if you stray from the path, but I hope that gets added in a future update as it's dead useful. During marathon training in busy London, Garmin's instant rerouting when I went off-course helped me focus on staying on pace during my long runs.

As most regular runners and riders are likely Strava users anyway (even though they might not be Premium members) this is a worthwhile integration that allows users to cut a few apps out of their stack. If you're using WorkOutdoors, syncing that to Apple Fitness, then uploading to Strava from there, doesn't it make more sense to record on Strava directly?

I'll be sticking with Garmin for now, due to a combination of Garmin's superior routing features and a desire to keep everything under Garmin's singular ecosystem, including fitness metrics, routes and training plans. However, Strava's acquisition of mapping software company FATMAP and AI-powered coaching platform Runna indicate that Strava's also looking to become a one-stop shop fitness umbrella platform to rival Garmin Connect.

So which models piqued my interest the most? Of all the lawnbots I saw at CES, these are the three I'm most excited to try out...

1. Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD

This lawnbot's predecessor blew my writer away when he tested it for our Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD review. The 2026 version is broadly similar but just a bit better all round – for me, it looks like the lawnbot to beat this year.

One of Mammotion's USPs is its Tri-Fusion Navigation system, which combines three navigation technologies, so that the lawnbot can pick the one that best suits each situation – and it (theoretically) never ends up losing its way. So there's traditional satellite-based navigation (ideal in wide, open spaces), LiDAR (great for cramped areas with obstacles) and camera-based Vision (perfect for precise object recognition).

All of those technologies have had an upgrade on the LUBA 3. The satellite positioning has been switched up so there's now no need for a separate RTK station, which removes one big pain point from getting set up. Mammotion now promises ±1 cm positioning precision, and an ability to react almost instantly to surroundings.

2. Segway Navimow i2 AWD

In the compact lawnbot corner of the market, my one to watch is the Segway Navimow i2 AWD. It's far from the flashiest of the 2026 fleet of robot mowers, but it has some clever tricks that help it really stand out from competitor models.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is rare in compact lawnbots. Here, it's not for scaling especially treacherous terrain, but to enable the bot to treat your yard with the care it deserves.

A rep for Segway Navimow explained to me that on non-AWD lawnbots, the wheel tread can drag on the grass when the bot needs to pivot. Having each wheel powered independently negates this issue. It can make the hairpin turn at the top of each neat lawn stripe without churning up your turf.

On top of this, Segway Navimow has added an 'Adaptive drive' feature to maximize battery life. Essentially, the front, guide wheel will only be motorized when it's specifically required – the brand says this can boost runtimes by up to 30%.

3. Roborock RockMow X1 LiDAR

My third pick is a bit of a curveball. Roborock is known for making some of the best robot vacuums around – it unveiled its first lawnbots at IFA in September 2025.

I haven't had a chance to test any of the debut lineup out yet (it's not mowing season in the UK), but I am intrigued to see if this brand can work its robovac magic on the lawnbot arena. At the top of my to-test list is the Roborock RockMow X1 LiDAR, which is a brand new 2026 addition to the range.

LiDAR in lawnbots is going to be one of the big trends of 2026, but it's typically used as a complement to satellite-based navigation tech. It's very rare for a robot mower not to use satellites at all, but that seems to be the case on this new Roborock model.

The RockMow X1 LiDAR uses LiDAR and VSLAM to find its way about. These are two major robot vacuum navigation technologies, so Roborock has plenty of expertise in its back pocket to draw on. LiDAR builds a 3D map of a space by bouncing light off obstacles, so it won't work in wide open, unenclosed lawns. However, in yards that have lots of obstacles and features, it could be ideal.

To say that Majority's new Bluetooth speakers appear to have been inspired by JBL is a bit like saying Oasis were a bit inspired by The Beatles – but then again there are only so many ways you can design a speaker or put three chords together. And the new Move M1, M2, M3 and M4 are all good looking, well specified and keenly priced.

All four speakers are available now in the UK, but Majority told TechRadar that it has a US distributor and "will announce launch plans later this year".

The baby of the range is the palm-sized Move M1, which is a 12W speaker with 70 hours of play time (which is… impressive), IPX5 water resistance, stereo pairing of two units, and hands-free calling via your phone. Its official price is £29.99 (about $40 / AU$60).

Next up there's the £49.95 (about $70 / AU$100) Move M2, which puts out 30W and has USB connectivity, aux-in and microSD playback options. It also has dynamic LED lighting to set the mood, and play time is 30 hours.

The Move M3 has a very similar specification to the M2, but ups the power to 40W and costs £79.95 (about $110 / AU$160).

The flagship is the Move M4, the most powerful of the four. It's a 70W speaker with Bluetooth 6.0, 30 hours of play time, IPX7 water resistance and stereo pairing. Once again, Move M4 has USB, aux-in and microSD inputs, and there are dynamic LEDs to set the mood. The Move M4 is £119.95 ($160 / AU$240).

With long battery lives and lower prices than similarly-sized JBL Bluetooth speakers, plus microSD music playback as a bonus, these could be very tempting – Majority has made some great-value stuff in the past, but we'll need to test these to see they sound good enough.

A new Dynatrace report has claimed around half of agentic AI initiatives are still in proof-of-concept or pilot stages, showing how organizations are struggling to move from experimentation to full implementation, holding them back from the ROI they're targeting.

But AI's value isn't the factor being questioned – rather, it's barriers like governance and safety that are causing delays. Furthermore, one in three cite a lack of a clear business case as a barrier to progression.

But businesses aren't being put off, with three-quarters (74%) expecting to increase agentic AI budgets next year.

These are the top agentic AI barriers, and how to navigate them

Today's biggest deployment areas are IT operations and DevOps (72%), software engineering (56%) and customer support (51%), however Dynatrace's report reveals a disparity between investment focuses and where enterprises expect to see the biggest ROI. The best returns are instead expected to come from IT operations and system monitoring (44%), cybersecurity (27%) and data processing and reporting (25%).

The study details some of the most preventative barriers, including security, privacy and compliance concerns (shared by 52% of respondents), difficulty in managing and monitoring agents at scale (51%) and a shortage of skilled staff or training (44%).

Business leaders also highlighted the importance of human workers in an agentic world, predicting a 50:50 split for IT and routine support tasks. At the moment, around two-thirds (69%) of agentic AI decisions are still verified by humans, and 87% are building AI agents that require human supervision.

A further one-quarter (23%) prefer to rely solely on human-supervised agents.

Looking ahead, Dynatrace's recommendations include reconsidering metrics and redefining ROI, establishing clear guardrails for human-machine collaboration and scaling slowly with intent instead of throwing large amounts of cash to varying degrees of success.

The devastating December 2025 cyberattack on Poland’s energy system was most likely the work of Sandworm, an infamous Russian state-sponsored threat actor, experts have said

“Based on our analysis of the malware and associated TTPs, we attribute the attack to the Russia-aligned Sandworm APT with medium confidence due to a strong overlap with numerous previous Sandworm wiper activity we analyzed,” ESET researchers said in a new report.

“We’re not aware of any successful disruption occurring as a result of this attack,” the researchers added, saying they attributed the attack to the Russians with “medium confidence.”

'Celebrating' anniversaries

In late 2025, Poland’s power system faced “the largest cyberattack in years”, when threat actors deployed DynoWiper, a piece of malware that simply deletes all of the data it finds. Somehow, it was stopped before being able to do any meaningful harm.

At the time, the country’s energy minister, Milosz Motyka, told reporters that the failed attack sought to disrupt the communication between renewable installations and the power distribution operators, Reuters reported.

"The command of the cyberspace forces has diagnosed in the last days of the year the strongest attack on the energy infrastructure in years," Motyka was cited saying.

ESET also stressed the symbolism of the attack, since exactly 10 years ago, Sandworm launched its first-ever attack on the Ukrainian power grid, which resulted in a blackout that lasted a couple of hours. Back then, Sandworm used the BlackEnergy malware to gain access to critical systems at several electrical substations and managed to leave around 230,000 people without electricity.

Ever since the Russian invasion on neighboring Ukraine, other countries in the region, including Poland, were subject to a growing number of cyberattacks. Polish critical infrastructure was not spared, forcing the country’s military to chime in and help the nation’s power grid operator protect critical transformer stations.

In September 2025, Poland also experienced a major railway explosion, which was also attributed to Russian sabotage. Warsaw described it as “Russian ‘state terrorism’”, while Moscow denied any involvement.

Cloudflare has warned that legacy systems are blocking AI progress and increasing cybersecurity risks, creating a so-called "technical glass ceiling" - but it's OK, because an effective modernization strategy could unlock a path forward.

The company's latest report claims firms which have modernized their applications are three times more likely to achieve a clear ROI from AI tools compared with those who are being limited by outdated infrastructure.

To this point, nearly all (93%) of the more than 2,300 IT, security, product and engineering leaders surveyed agreed that updating software is the single most important factor in improving AI capabilities.

AI is being held back by legacy apps and infrastructure

Cloudflare also highlighted the importance of factoring in security with their modernization strategies, noting those that do are four times more likely to reach advanced AI maturity. Security was defined as a "growth multiplier" rather than just a protection tool.

Despite an 85% reduction in infrastructure confidence among those who have delayed modernization, they're still not seeing it as an incentive to upgrade, with many left with a reactive approach to only upgrading after suffering a security breach.

The report also covers some other 'costs' associated with running old tech, including higher maintenance costs, slower innovation, developer talent shortages and increased exposure to cyberattacks.

Looking ahead, four in five leaders plan to double down on AI integration within their current application portfolios over the next year, but they may not get the success they hope for, with 95% (potentially wrongly) believing their infrastructure is sufficient for AI development.

Some of the most popular applications set out for AI include improving internal workflows (79%), powering content-driven applications (73%) and supporting revenue-generating initiatives (66%).

In short, building security into modernization from the get-go and not treating modernization as a reactive, last-resort strategy are key to getting the most out of AI.

Xbox has talked a bit more about its release strategy for PlayStation 5, going so far as to admit things could be smoother on that front.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Xbox Game Studios boss Craig Duncan went into detail about the success of the publisher's endeavors on Sony's machine, highlighting Forza Horizon 5 as a particularly impressive standout.

"Forza Horizon 5, which launched on PS5 last year, did really, really well," Duncan said. "It helped the community around that game grow – it gives everybody more people to play with. For me, this strategy is really about how we can have our games reach as many people as they can."

Xbox Game Studios released a number of its titles on PS5 last year. Games like Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 arrived on the console on the same day as the Xbox and PC versions. Some weren't so fortunate, though, with the likes of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle coming to PS5 at a later date.

This will also be true of Forza Horizon 6, which is coming to Xbox and PC on May 19, 2026. However, a PS5 release is expected later this year, with no concrete date specified at the time of writing. This also doesn't line up with the launches of both Fable and Kiln, which are planned to come to PS5 the same day as other platforms.

Duncan explained why this might be the case, saying: "There's always development realities about when these projects start – how big a team is, and what plans we have at the start of development...

"Sometimes we are inconsistent. You see some games in one place, some games in multiple places. Just know that we're going to work on that, and we're going to try and be more consistent with what we do."

Google engineers had a busy weekend as they sought to fix an issue with how Gmail messages were being filtered and classified after inboxes went haywire on Saturday January 24.

Users reported receiving Primary, Social and Updates emails in their Primary inboxes with some spam messages even appearing as legitimate emails.

Many even reported delays in receiving some emails, which caused issues with email-based two-factor authentication (2FA) codes.

Gmail spam filtering issue is now fixed, Google confirms

"Gmail users might see banners indicating missing spam checks," a Google Workspace status update read.

The company identified that the issue started at 5:02am PT.

"Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, additional spam warnings, and delays in receiving email," a separate update in the same thread detailed.

"We advise the users to be extra diligent in lieu of missing spam checks," the company was warning users at the peak of the incident.

The Gmail issue correlates with a spike in Gmail-related complaints on Downdetector, with one user summarizing their experience clearly: "Sudden influx of promo emails hitting my primary. All labeled as potential Spam."

Although the issue was marked as fixed with effect from 9:55pm PT, Google still hasn't confirmed the technical root cause, instead promising to deliver an incident analysis after the completion of its investigation.

Although the undisclosed cause looks to have been rectified, Google is still warning users that they may continue to receive misclassified emails, delays and erroneous spam warnings for a short while.

Google's advice concluded that its spam filtering tool should only be considered an aid. "we encourage users to follow standard best practices when engaging with messages from unknown senders," a company spokesperson said to Engadget.

On a similar note, Google pulled Gmailify from its offerings earlier this month, removing the ability for third-party inboxes like Outlook to get Gmail's spam filtering tools outside of the native Gmail experience.

Geekom has quietly updated its low-cost mini PC line with the new A5 Pro, delivering modest hardware changes while maintaining a compact and versatile design.

The Geekom A5 Pro replaces the Ryzen 7 5800H in the original A5 with the newer Ryzen 5 7530U.

Although it uses a newer processor, benchmarks show a 15 to 20% drop in performance compared to the older Ryzen 7 5800H model.

Memory and storage capacity remain flexible

The Geekom A5 Pro comes standard with 16GB of RAM, down from 32GB in its predecessor, but it still supports up to 64GB of DDR4 memory across two SO-DIMM slots.

Storage options include M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 slots, allowing up to 3TB of total storage.

The mini PC offers a full range of connectivity options suited to casual users and compact workstations.

These include a 2.5G Ethernet port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a DC power input, two HDMI 2.0 outputs, an SD card reader, one USB 2.0 Type-A port, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports.

Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth provide wireless connectivity, making it suitable for mobile workstations and general mini PC use without extra adapters.

Geekom has kept the compact form factor of the A5 series, allowing the A5 Pro to fit comfortably in limited desk spaces or portable setups.

Although the CPU change lowers raw performance, the mini PC still handles multitasking, document editing, media playback, and lightweight applications effectively.

Users can expand memory and storage to adapt the A5 Pro for heavier workloads, although it does not compete with high-end mobile workstations or full-size workstations.

On Geekom's official website, the Ryzen 5 7530U variant with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD retails for $519, but the company has reduced the price to $469.

Artificial intelligence systems are improving quickly, yet adoption across countries remains uneven, new research has claimed.

The findings from OpenAI argue a growing capability overhang exists between what current AI systems can do and how much of that capability is actually used by people, companies, and governments.

The company warns this gap risks allowing a small group of countries to move faster economically and technologically, while others struggle to keep pace.

Evidence of uneven adoption across countries

OpenAI frames this as a problem of usage rather than access, suggesting that uneven skills, infrastructure, and institutional readiness matter as much as model availability.

Data cited by OpenAI indicates that advanced usage differs sharply between users and countries.
